I was unsure where to put this post, so hopefully folks can help.

I am trying to plan ahead for the corals I want, and mainly want soft corals. However, I do wanna try one LPS to see how it does/for experience. I have a 32 gallon biocube and know I want both GSP and Pulsing Xenia - aggresive growers I know. My question is this - can frogspawn defend itself against them with its sweepers? I was thinking I'd place it near the top of the tank while the GSP and Xenia would start low. Will the sweeper tentacles keep them from overpowering it?

I am also interested in a leather and maybe mushroom softies so I am open to suggestions. My cycle finished this week so i am ready to stock my first coral but wanna plan smart! I'm including a tank photo in case folks have placement suggestions.

The frogspawn will be fine against the xenia and the gsp for sure, just make sure that you add the frogspawn in before the xenia or gsp take over. If you want to do a mix of softies along with stony corals I would also recommend that you run carbon as softies like leathers can release chemicals which can irritate stony corals.

Awesome! Yeah, I plan to stock slowly over the next few months, so everything should start out far from one another. Glad to know the FS will be ok! Thanks for the heads up, I am running carbon and already planned ahead to have a baggy for extra carbon when I clean or (hopefully) frag in the future!

Thata good advice, thanks! I wanna keep the frogspawn contained up top and the softies mid and low
I’d put a frogspawn on the front right Little Rock infront of the powerhead. It will love that spot. But anywhere is fine! They are all super easy, if you have questions hit me up! I have a 32 biocube I grow euphillia(frogspawn and things) in and a big Xenia rock.

Also about frogspawn is put it in a well lit area where’s the water flow tends to carry its tenticals away from the other corals . In a area of random flow which is best but it’s sweepers will be stinging everything with in 6” of it .
And watch your temp they hate it above 80

Oh thank you! I will keep that in mond, I appreciate the suggestion. Id love to see your biocube!!

Oh both of those are good to know. I had read the 6 inch rule with them, but hadn't heard that about the temp. Is 79 too high? I've heard so many mixed opinions on temperature honestly. Maybe I'll drop to 77 or 76

79 degrees is tad high almost all coral like it at 75-77. Above 80 and frogspawn, hammer, and torch corals all tend to get brown slime infections ( I think it’s called brown jelly or slime ) frogspawn was a good choice it’s the easiest of the 3 . Cool cube

Frogspawn are very hardy and should be just fine with what you want to do. My longest-lived coral is a frogspawn I got for $5 almost 6 years ago. A mini-crash almost wiped it out, but one head survived and it's slowly returning to its former glory.

One word of caution though - be very certain that you want Xenia and GSP in your tank before you put them in there. They can, will and do absolutely spread over every inch they can, and will even overgrow other corals. Removing them once established can be difficult - one thing you can do is scatter smaller rocks on top of your large rockwork. If you ever want to frag it or clear a space for something else, just cut the tissue around the smaller rock and remove it directly.

Thanks! I've decided to slowly drop it to 76, and thanks! Been reading a lot of coral blogs and posts xP

Thanks for the heads up, and glad to hear FS does so well. I am sure I want gsp and xenia, they are my two favorite corals I wanted actually xD thats why Ive been trying to plan around them with things that could (hopefully) challenge them. If all else fails, a tank full of gsp and xenia will still be beautiful imo and I'll have plenty of frags! But sounds like the FS might be ok. I do also have a bucket of rubble Im gonna use like you suggested, so thanks!

Hey, since you and others own FS, maybe you can advise - how do they handle being un-submerged? I plan to do weekly water changes and really wanna put my FS when I get it on the top of my tallest rock near the return pump, but am concerned when I do my weekly water changes as ir grows, the water may get low enough to expose it to air. Will it be ok, or will it just limit its growth?
