My Frogspwan was looking great! Two heads, divided into 3. Now, it seems to be maybe dividing into 4 but shrinking and lighter in color.

I’ve checked water conditions and everything seems stable. Phosphates, Nitrates, pH, everything. Nothing different from how it was for months.

the only change I know is that I added a second light to the tank. I found it was too intense and bleached out my purple stylo. So I turned the white intensity down to 75%.

The frogspwan isn’t stretching up like it is short on light. Should I disconnect the second light entirely abd see if returning to the original light helps it get back in good shape?

Thanks,
Ron

What prompted you to add the second light? Any idea what kind of par readings you have prior and after the additional light? What lights did you have and settings and what did you add?

I had a purple stylo that I was told needed more light. Honestly it was doing fine under the one light.

I figured out the problem, I was cooking everything. Turns out my heater was messed up and the digital temp probe that I had was also. I kept feeling like th water was really warm but the heater was set to 79 and he temp probe kept reading the same.

The frogspawns wasnt the only one. My Kenya tree lost all color. My favia just bleached out entirely and so did the purple stylo. I finally bought a mercury thermometer and a different digital probe. The water was 90.

i felt so dang stupid! I had been trusting what I thought was a redundancy in the two different temp measurements instead of my own natural instincts. I can’t count how many times I thought “wow this water feels really warm. I guess it’s just the surface near the lights.”

Now, routinely I not only check the mercury therm, but also dip a digital probe in.

Good news is the frogspawn appears to be fine and recovering and so is the Kenya tree.
