I’ve had this frogspawn for about 2 months now maybe more. This is the most it’s really ever opened. Not sure how to get it to open more. It’s been in 2 location in the tank and same extension on it. Also what type of frogspawn is this if someone can tell me

What is the lighting and flow like in the spots you placed it? Too strong a flow could cause it to not extend fully, and for that matter could expose the flesh around the base of the tentacles, which bbn is bad.

Also what are your tank parameters like?

Let's get some #reefsquad members in for their input.

I would call that a branching frogspawn. I dont have fancy names for the different varieties. I have 2 pieces of the same colony in 2 different spots in my tank. Both are different colors.
Because it looks like it is not fully open my first guess is too much flow. Second guess is too much light.

too much light?!? It’s on the sand bed lol

I have the same one. Started with one head and very short tentacles. 3 months later it has two. Also, I’ve been watching it. Not only did it branch a second head, I very slowly simultaneously the tentacles have gotten longer. I think that variety might just start with shorter tentacles and get longer as they thrive in your tank. At least that’s my experience with it. I have a different color frogspawn right next to it with 2 heads that just grew a third and his tentacles are super long but the other one has been catching up so just give it time

It’s just weird because that’s the only coral in my whole tank that doesn’t extend at all. I have 3 frogspawns(diff colors) and all are opened. Both have been next to this one and were opened I just needed to check so I placed them near one another. I’m not sure parameters all look perfectly fine when I checked last water change. Everything else in my display looks good and growing.

mad for lighting im using an AI prime hd with a aquatic life t5 hybrid fixture. Flow I have a Nero 5 pump that’s only running at 25%which also isn’t directly aiming at the sand bed.

I'ld try dipping it. If your others are opening bigger and better I suspect something is bothering it. It looks healthy in pics. Just a suggestion, after dipping it try some Brightwell CoralAminos - mine literally exploded when I started dosing CA 5ml weekly via ATO.

Should you test for this while dosing? Is there any bad factors towards dosing with aminos?

I keep my CoralAmino dosing at 5ml per week dissolved in my ATO water. That way I know it's not getting a full blast at one time. I've read too much amino acid will cause an algae spike, I'm not a chemist but I've found too much of a good thing usually causes algae... just a theory.
