From “dead” to thriving !

So a few months back I had a half crash algae bloom death to coral situation . Come to find out my under sink RO system was just that. I at the time did not know there was a difference from RO to rodi. My bad! So during that crash I had a Duncan that had lost all heads and was basically a white stump. It fell off its plug and fell down behind some rocks. So I left it for dead and went on with sorting out my problems. Finally found out my water was crap.. total crap. So I replaced my RO system with a five stage rodi reef keepers system from air water and iced. Did a few water changes and now bam things are looking up way up to be honest. Here is a picture of my stump before and now.

Also the rest of my corals are really looking better.
Anyone asking if rodi is really all that important the answer is yes it’s not just important its essential to success in my experience. [/IMG]

I have the one from air water ice also. I love it. Yes RODI is far superior to regular RO.

Btw, you have great coraline growth? Was the rock bought like that? It did it take months/years to get that way?

Yes for the most part I know nothing of water filter systems outside of my home having a ro filter and a softener when I bought it. When I had public water installed and got off of well water I had them both removed because they served me no purpose any longer.
I’m an electrician not a plumber lol.
How often do you have to change out the filters and resin on your unit??
Oh and only one complaint about my rodi was that all the push fittings leaked off the bat. None of them were tight.

As for the coralline growth, it spread like wild fire. Came in on a snails back and this is what the rocks look like after 6 months ..

I swap all the filters once in a year (always at Christmas...) but it depends of usage.

I have a couple urchins that eat my coraline, but the eat algae like crazy too.

I have had my unit for 8 months and only do 5 gallon water changes weekly. I only have a 39g tank. I am getting ready to set up a 200g system, so I will be giving it a workout. Only one of my push fittings leaked, but I cut my line square and it fixed it. My TDS is still 0. I have the inline tester and a handheld and they both say 0 still. I will likely have a spare set soon just in case it gets spent while filling the 200g.

I have a 65 gallon dt and 15 in the sump. Some of those rocks you see were in my sump as little as a month ago and were gray white with no color when I moved them to the dt. If I put new snails in there they turn purple in weeks haha poor guys.. it does sap my calc though. It’s never gotten to the glass too bad plastic on the other hand it grows on fast. I’ve avoided any urchins as I hear they will eat corals. I have a hard enough time keeping them alive. Hoping that is behind me now I have good water. If rodi and Red Sea accelerated growth can’t keep them going then idk what I’ll try next.
