From 125 to 35 frag tank

Hey all ...

So taking down my 125 (155 gallons total) due to a move for work at some point in the coming months, and also because my 125 has dino.

So I am going to take all my sps out and just go down to a 35 gallon frag tank. I am NOT using any water from the 125 due to the dino. I got a buddy to give me his "old" water when he did a water change from his established system. So I am going to use the 18 gallons from his tank, and then make the rest new water.

My question.. in the frag tank do I need some rock in there or no? Can I get away with no live rock?

You need some sort of biological filtration. If not live rock you can use some kind of marinepure or xport bricks to act as your love rock.

Unfortunately the only live rock I have was in the main 125 DT

Going to have to get some .... I won't need a lot obviously

No you definitely wont need a lot. Especially if you only plan on keeping coral or minimal fish.

yah just coral for the most part ... I have a pair of clowns I might keep just because I can in a tank of that size, but not many more then 4 or 5 small guys

I for sure should not use any of the live rock from my main DT right? Even if it was in the sump?

That I'm not sure. I'd think if your sump doesnt have a refugium light on it, than the rock in there wouldn't have any dinos on it but I'm not sure if once it was given light if dinos would be present or not.

Yah there is NO light in my fuge ...
