made the switch recently... noticed more small particles floating around in the water. is this going to be my norm? the filter floss was purchased from InTank.

if a better filter floss can be used to filter smaller particles, which floss would you guys recommend?

You can add a 100 micron pad like this from Amazon and place below the filter floss to catch finer particles. FYI - these will clog faster than the floss.

Otherwise, yes more small particles will be the norm. In my tank, I use sock after water change to polish water and then few days later replace sock with filter floss.

I remember reading somewhere not to filter out all of those small particles because clean up crew and corals need to eat. Is that wrong?

not necessarily right or wrong but rather which method works for you. For me, socks are a hassle bc they clog too easily so I dont use socks much bc its more of lazy thing. However by not using socks, my drain chamber in sump collects a lot of detritus that requires periodic cleaning (I really should install a small powerhead there to prevent detritus from settling). here's a thread discussing socks vs no socks
