From LEDs to T5s: Candy Apple Reds

This was in my old tank lit with LEDs and I thought it was really nice at the time... They have been fragged a few times between photos so that's why it basically looks like it hasn't grown.

What is temperature spec of the T5 bulbs? Actinic, full spectrum? Please give us more detail on the Led lamps and on the T5. Thanks.

Those Candy Apple red now look like Candy Apple Orange! Wowser!
 
The LEDs were cheap chinese black boxes that were at 100% on both channels, and I run 4 B+, 3 C+, 1 P+ in a ATI SunPower.

I'm sure the lighting has a bit to do with the color change, but like all good things it's not as simple as that. I can't think of anything other than maybe nutrients that might be different in this system where the frag plug is at, aside from light spectrum change.

Don't need to guess. All flurescets have a broader spectrum than led's purely because the operate on a more analog scale. And contain a small amount of uv.
Compare a low budget led to a higher end one. The expensive ones generally have several colors to fill in the gaps in color spectrum. Chinese usually have blue and a white either cool or warm.

To confuse most people, there is no white light. Period.
With led I can mix white with many different colors by adding combinations of blue red and green in specific amounts. But they are set amounts of each. A t5 or pc actually contains all the colors on a smooth analog slope.

Less nutrients in the new system, there was a bad DSB in the last tank that kept N&P higher.

Personally I refer to it as "white light" to simplify things, I do realize that there's no such thing. I can see why people might find that annoying.

Nice!! Could you please post a pic of your hybrid light fixture? And maybe some details on the build? I'm currently putting together what I need to build a led/t5 hybrid
 
All my friends that have T5 systems their zoas look amazing! That's the reason why I did a T5 with reefbrite frag tank
 
Both.
t5 mh pc, have a broader spectrum(generally... leds differ greatly) and feed the corals better.
they also reflect to the eye/camera better
if you have a DSLR point it at a coral or your lawn and manually scroll through the white balances.

I'm sorry if I've confused you, I don't have a hybrid fixture. It's just a normal ATI 8 bulb SunPower. I would love to add reefbrites one day though, I do miss some things with LEDs.

I wonder were those color already in the polyps and were brought out instantly by the T5 light? Or did the colors develop slowly in the new system?

This was not instantaneous, it's been exactly 2 months today since the switch.
