When I saw this the first thing that came to my mind was a major game developer years ago implementing an idea that users accounts and in-game communication required real/personal names. Similar to what you would find on legal documents, drivers license, mail, etc. The reason was to try and reduce the amount of on-line bullying that happens. Thought was that people react one way on-line but differently when face to face.

I've thought the same thing about people using actual pictures of themselves as their avatars too, and it could work both ways. If you saw a real picture when replying to someone's post maybe you'd think more about whether'd say the same thing to their face in person as what was typed in the post. Or if you knew people could see your picture when reading your post, you might not say something that might otherwise get said if you felt more anonymous.
How do I change my name? I got a larger tank and email'd the Admin a few times with no luck. TomHey guys and gals! I've been known on this site for the last 7 years as mdbannister, but lately I've been thinking that it might be easier for people if my username wasn't my initials and last name. Since my goal is to help our community have the best possible experience, it seems it makes more sense to have a username that people can easily identify and maybe even remember. It's kind of like the difference between having an email that is [email protected] vs. [email protected]. I dunno...maybe I'm overthinking it, but at any rate, I figured let's try this out and see what you all think. ;Smuggrin
