I have a fromia starfish noticed today that it was starting to loose its tips, seems perfectly healthy other than that moving about as normal. Any ideas to what could be happening?

Most likely dying....... their body begins to fall apart.

Any way to prevent it from dying ? What could be wrong seems it has plenty of food water quality is great

Unfortunately they usually die. ........Especially once they start to come apart.

sea stars are very sensitive and unfortunately, most don’t make it. the most hardy tend to be the brittle, serpent and chocolate chip sea stars.
I really like the chocolate starfish but unfortunately they aren’t reef safe

As others have said, fromia stars are just not enduring in our reef tanks (linkia even worse). I'm not sure if it's collection damage, lack of proper foods …. or both. I have twice had fromia survive past a year, but they eventually begin to disintegrate and die. While the novice may mistake disintegration for physical damage from pumps or fish, it almost never is. These are animals that should not be brought in IMO. The good news, though, is that brittle and serpent stars are easy to keep.

Really?

I’ve had great luck with blue and orange linkias...purple so-so. I’ve got several tanks with multi-year linkias. Not sure if there’s anything I’m doing ‘right’, but the stars are all in tanks that feature a lot of fish (and waste).

Fromias, on the other hand...yeah, not too durable.

Can you show some pictures? Gave up on the blue years ago.
