Okay so i ordered some frozen food online and it was shipped over night....unfortunately the airline was delayed and it took 2 days to get to me. The vendor is already sending me a new package at no cost because they said it will be no good which is great. Here is the question - I received the first package and it was thawed but still very cold...If i freeze it will it still be usable?? They were supposed to be blocks but obviously it is liquid form now...if i freeze it flat, i could just cut it up once frozen?? What do you guys think?

Thanks for the input

What kind of food is it?

If it smells "OK" then it's fine... if you're not sure, don't use it.

The "liquid" statement makes me weary...

Yeah it was liquid but it was ice cold....it is mini mysis cubes

and smell is never easy because what frozen food smells good to begin with

LOL, agreed... the smell is never necessarily "pleasing." I can tell when Mysis goes bad... unfortunately I've left my fair share of it out of the freezer for too long over the years.

If it was Mysis, and ice cold, I think it's probably OK due to the fact that the liquid in mysis is just oils/water that's thawed.

Yeah that is what i was thinking but i wanted some opinions :P

It was definitely ice cold and there was no way it was warm and went ice cold again...plus it was in a cooler with 2 ice packs...it just didnt have enough to keep it frozen for 2 days...

Thanks everyone!!!

PS. the food is going to a friend of mine anyway (since i have another lb. coming) but i wanted to make sure it was kind of safe LOL

I thaw my food out so I can mix different kinds together and then refreeze so I say if it was still cold use.

i would taste it first
you want to be sure dont ya?

there is a difference to being cold and ice cold which would be ice....At some point it begins to thaw do to temps getting above 32 degrees. Once it does that wither it is cold or not it begins to spoil.....The problem is you don't know how long it was like that, I thaw out mysis in RO/DI water and put it in the fridge. That is cold as well but I would not use it after 24hrs or so being thawed as you can see the water get murky and it has a more pungent Oder to it....If there were some that was frozen and some in the pack that was thawed I might say use it but since it was all liquid I say 50/50 toss it. Is it really worth the risk to the fish and corals for some free "used to be frozen" food....You have some new on the way as replacements anyway...But that IMHO.....

Tuff call here..........Seeing how your supplier is replacing the food why chance it ? You would be kicking yourself for months if you upset the balance in your tank for no good reason . Your new food is on it's way at no cost to you , so just toss it .
