Frozen Food Unthawed Live Aquaria

Hello,

just received my final frozen food order from live aquaria, never received a shipping notification, box arrived smashed, food is cold but unthawed mostly, can it used safety? I threw it in the freezer.

When did they start using ice packs instead of dry ice?

I stopped ordering livestock from them long ago but wow they can’t get foods right now either.

Wow!!! That sucks !!! If it was still cold it’s probably good but I would wonder just how good it is to refreeze and if it affects longevity after being thawed then refrozen . I would definitely call them and let them know how you received it and see if they think it’s ok and find out why they didn’t give you tracking prior or notice of when a perishable item was to arrive at your door . If it were me I’d let them know how ticked I was . Good luck

I think a fair number of suppliers ship with dry ice And everything arrives frozen. I’d be pretty annoyed with this.

They use to ship with dry ice, it arrived completely frozen as if taken out of freezer. It could sit on porch all day and remain frozen. Now they shop with ice packs which do not work.

Still says dry ice on the website. $30 shipping, overnight, it better arrive frozen. When I worked at a fish store we sure didn't pay for overnight and ours ALWAYS arrived super frozen. Bust their chops for some credit imo. That company deserves no less.

I was stunned by how they shipped fish to me this winter. It was literally the coldest day of the year. I begged them to hold the order. They refused and promised that it would be packed well. The fish arrived in a foam Mylar bag, not even a cooler. Even with heat packs they were 47 degrees. It blows my mind how far Live aquaria has fallen. They really were great back in the day,.

Wow- even food order gets screwed up?
Fortunately, if its cold, its not spoiled. No different than buying at LFS in the summer and having it wrapped in newspaper and soft but cold when you get home.

Makes me feel like whoever bought them out is making cuts yet has no experience selling livestock or frozen food apparently.

The way it’s going, it feels like they will run LA into the ground and it’s going to disappear which is too bad as Divers den used to be a special place to get unique fish and see peppermint angels sell in a hot second.

I've had this happen many times.I call and get a refund. If the stuff is still cold or partially frozen I'll use. But as it didn't arrive frozen, I ask for a refund. And toss the stuff that is suspect.

The food should be frozen until you are ready to use it. If they are shipping with ice packs instead of dry ice, they are flat out wrong. I would be inclined to shoot an email to each of the manufacturers so they are aware their products are being mishandled.

I ordered frozen food from them one time. There wasn't enough dry ice to keep an ant cold. Food was thawed. I got a reshipment. Was the last time.

You paid $30 for shipping? Yeah i would be a little mad if it was packaged like that.

I think he’s poking at ‘unthawed’ vs ‘thawed’. Your order was thawed on arrival which others assumed that’s what you meant.

While unthawed would technically mean frozen (but who says unthawed to mean frozen anyway), but the two are used interchangeable to mean thawed in regional pockets all over the place. It's not common where I am (Milwaukee), though I understand Wisconsin (or maybe the midwest in general) is one of the places it's commonly heard.

FWIW, the actual, dictionary definition of "unthaw" is "thaw" and that goes back hundreds of years, it's not like they adjusted the dictionary to reflect a recent trend (like how literally now literally means figuratively).
