i bought a 10 polyp frag of purple death from a guy on RC and they just started to melt away.(been in the tank for a week tommorrow) they never opened and i have another frag of them from stoneyscorals that look great. any idea what could have been the cause.
i have kept them under a rock ledge in my tank.

Might be worth mentioning that everything else in the tank is doing great, including a duncan, rainbow, sunset, and superman montis, nukes, red wines, and lots of other "rare" zoas (including 3 other PDs).

I have had that problem countless times this past year.....Could never figure it out myself or pinpoint what the issue was. I switched salts and haven't had a problem since. Doubt that was the issue though.....

sounds like shipping shock and now they have a bacterail infection if its not to late id be dipping in tmpcc or somthin to try to stop it very sry to here that im sure they werent cheap.

they were 375.00.

i hate this, now we will see what the seller does

here they are now

Why would the seller take pix with the frag out of the tank? You can't tell if the polyps are healthy or not. Unless he's got something to hide

update everything has melted

ouch... I have a good idea where they came from...

I've had couple of single polyp PD frags I shipped out last year that totally melted and never opened also... I'm replacing all of them, no biggie though.. :)

I would guess shipping shock also.. was the water freezing cold when you got the package?

For some reason I didn't realize that they were PDs....I keep thinking they were PPEs........One thing about the pictures is with these polyps I would never take a picture of them out of the water, cause they close and get real tight and 2 they start to slime beyond belief. They, I am sure were under some stress just being held out of water for who knows how long and then slapped into a bag for shipping. Not a very good way to start a sale......Have you contacted the seller again?

waiting on chelsey to take a pic of the plug later today

than i will contact him but i have been keeping him up to date with pics of what is going on

so we will see how this goes

They do look ok in the seller's pic, even though they're out of the water.

They don't take too well to fw dip though, no?

That is one of the things I warn people about with Purple Deaths.....Do not FW dip them....Every one that I know of that has FW dipped them all have died. SW/w iodine is fine but a freshwater dip is a big no-no......

I did not FW dip them, I've heard they don't do well being dipped like that. I usually do a SW dip with Lugols unless I am hesitant, then I do a FW dip + lugols.
