I have a 32 biocube with lid removed. Salinity 1.026, Calc 440, Alk 11, Mag 1350, Ph 8.0, 78*F, The tank is a little over a year old and my water has tiny particles everywhere( not micro bubbles) The problem is this white stuff is still passing through my filter floss. I have even used 3 pads stacked in 2nd chamber. When I look into 3rd chamber where my return pumps are it's also full of this white stuff. I can not figure out how to get clear water. I'm using IO reef crystal and a new batch test about the same as the tank. I add salt slowly and when salinity matches I bring up the temp. I usually mix for 24hrs. Can somebody help? Thanks. Could it be a problem with evaporation? I'm adding fresh water twice a day. I use ro/di. Thanks again.

IS your RO/DI 0 TDS before mixing the salt?

Do you have a skimmer? Can you adjust the height of the aio drain?

IMO, it would be worth an ATO so you don't have to top off.

what type of filtration are you running

Right now just filter floss and carbon in a bag. I had chemipure and phosgaurd but I recently took those out. Nit and phos are reading 0.

I also have 2 mj1200 return pumps in 3rd chamber for more water turn over plus 1 circulating pump in the display.

I had a 29 Bio Cube years ago... and had a similar problem. I bought some felt from the LFS that guys used to make their own filter socks. I cut a piece that sat under the filter floss. It was able to filter out the microparticles like the ones you talk about and I also experienced. There are couple of issues with this.... a) they clog up quickly..., b) I would replace after cleaning a couple of times..., c) not a long term solution. You may find yourself cleaning and replacing a couple times a day at first... until they are removed from the system.

How long has the tank been running? Are you using a very fine sand? Are you running a lot of flow through powerheads...etc.?

I agree with others that getting an ATO for your topoff is something that would be a good long term acquisition. That said, I used to topoff manually for years... You just have to be dedicated to doing it... As long as you are using RODI and have a TDS of 0... I dont think that is a problem. More likely you have microparticles that are not being filtered out by the floss... and the water is moving so much in the system there is no other place for it to settle out....

My two cents worth!

Add some polishing pads and see if that works. It may be two fine for filter floss. They will catch very fine particles so will clog quickly
