So earlier this year I had a battle with ich. I ended up losing 7 out of my 12 fish. I QT'd them all for almost 3 months, treated with copper and then kept them in the QT while the main DT remained fallow for 80 days.

My 5 remaining fish have been back in my DT for about 3 weeks now and everything seemed great, until I caught the light just right on my Blue Hippo today and noticed spots on his body...the ich is back.

I just feel a little defeated right now and don't want to go through this battle again. Ugh.

Are you seeing spots on any of your other fish?

Hippo Tangs look splotchy sometimes, and that can easily be misidentified as ich/velvet.

No other spots on other spots on other fish. Just bumps on the black part of the hippo. I'll try to get a picture to post.

Add a couple of mollies to the tank and see if they develop spots. I've had Velvet in my 300 twice in 6 months and am incredibly paranoid that it's going to magically reappear. I inspect the fish every day and can almost always find a spot that looks like Velvet but the two black Mollies are spotless so I can sleep at night.

I had this same struggle with a hippo tang, put all my fish through copper for two months. Every other fish was clear but the hippo never lost the spots. Ended up giving him away.

The next day all of his spots were gone. I'm just confused now.

But today my yellow tang has spots all over him. SMH.

Sorry if this comes across as a stupid question. But when you went fallow for 80d did you add any new corals/inverts to the tank? I think that’s the most common reason why ich fallow periods fail.

I didn't add anything during that time period.
