I woke up this morning to find my black damsel fish have reproduced (not for me trying though). Please can someone tell me if they need special food? I currently feel prime reef flakes and mysis. Also, will my clown wrasse get them or will the adult damsels protect them? Thanks for any advice.

Congrats. On the baby's idk if anything will eat them just wanted to say very cool

I would think anything in the tank could mistake them for food. And as for what to feed them I’m not sure, but somebody in here would know. Good luck with them cause that’s really cool that you have fry

They will likely be eaten by everyone including their parents, any crabs or shrimp in the tank. If you wanted to try, you could do rotifers and newly hatched brine.

I would do a search on raising baby clownfish. There is a lot of information about the topic and I would think raising any damsel would be very similar if not exactly the same.

Might also try cyclops and Coral Gumbo or Reef Plankton; size matters. Assuming you have other fish, etc. in your DT I would remove them if you want to keep some

Even in a separate fry tank, raising damselfish through the larval stage is not an easy process. You may find this Rising Tide article interesting.

Thanks for the advice everyone. If they are still alive tomorrow I'll get some rotifiers and baby brine shrimp. All I have at home is reef roids but it says on the tub it's just for corals. Thanks again

Please keep us updated, it would be good to see the success rate.
