Either your waters not clean enough or not enough light. mine started as 3 heads now its 30

Could it be too clean? I'm running a 225 skimmer on a 29g...

Could be yea thats a lot of skimming lol i run a skimmer rated for 250 on my 180 but i have a lot of other filtration like algae scrubber and ecobak.

They will have to get fat and happy before splittng. Feeding can help but its not necessary i havnt directly fed mine in a long long time. But i feed a good ammount of small foods that it catches almost daily. Just think with such a big skimmer ur not only skimming waste but plankton and phyto plankton and all those good things you want in your tank. IMO skimming to hard leads to problems just use an appropriately rated skimmer with other things like gfo or chaeto and it will be good enough.

If ur having growth problems.it could be lack of food as i stated to much skimming. Also.nanos can be tough to run because of all those reasons. For a nano if u just keep livestock small and fed very little and do WCs u dont really need a skimmer or anything else. Although some macro algaes would be nice to add for looks and help filtering. I ran my 10 for about a year with just a sixline and damsel and chaeto and WCs
