Hey so I'm currently putting together an IM Nuvo 10 and am considering turning one of the spaces in the media basket into a mini refugium to house chaeto. I have 2 questions regarding this.

Firstly would that small of an area/mass of chaeto even be enough to see a reduction in nutrients? Even in a 10 gallon tank?

Second, if it would be worth doing, what would my best option for lighting it be? A small LED perhaps?

Thanks in advance for any input, the help is much appreciated.

I don't know if you'd see long-term reduction given how small that area is. I would look into a smaller cheato reactor

It’s definitely not going to hurt, regardless of how little it helps. It’ll at least give you a solid breeding area for pods.

I believe BRS said in their Chaeto videos that they felt the limiting factor on the HOB style fuges might be due to the underpowered light rather than the small space.

IM makes a 9 watt light that fits their AIO chambers called the Chaeto Max. It has only a few reviews on BRS and MarineDepot, but they are all positive. I’m actually looking to try it out, as my sump chamber isn’t very large.
