I understand the use of a fuge (for nutrient reduction; filtration).

I understand the use of copepods as food for mandarin and benefits the tank eco system itself.

What’s the point of copepods in a fuge? I have read you can harvest pods from fuge to feed fish in display (?). How would this be accomplished? Are they really needed in there?

Pods eats macro algae. This is the reason they live in the fuge. Pods will just end up in the DT. No need to harvest.
 
It Just creates a safe place for the pods to thrive and repopulate. You can use a loofa or a copepod hotel to house and release then into your display.
 
They do best in there for food source and reproduction opposed to in tank where they’ll be consumed
