I am trying to decide if i should get the purple chateo light or one that can grow corals in my fuge space. I have a nice area to have a fuge, but not sure if i should grow the macro or acclimate frags in it. Its an open area sump and i dont care for the idea of purple light shining in the room. I'm not trying to use triton method, so im not trying to grow a basketball of chateo. Will the area be effective on a reverse cycle just growing coral and maybe some macro or mangrove with a regular light?

I don’t think I’ve seen a coral grow out in a fugue before. It’s a cool idea and would be fun to see the results. I would think a coral light would be plenty to use for macro algae in case the coral grow out didn’t work so you could convert if necessary.

I've been toying with this idea and i think i might go ahead with it. Just been trying to figure lights now. Do i want them to match? Led/led or t5/t5 or mix. About 2 weeks until cycle is over. Probably done now, but im not testing so im going to let it ride the full month.

I have a par 38 54 watt blue/white led in one section of my sump and I grow Xenia with a reverse lighting cycle. You probably could use reef spectrum lights and do both (grow some macro and acclimate/store frags) with something like an egg crate divider.

I've seen those bulbs. Will they grow everything? I don't want something like xenia to take over the tank. I've read about people having a harder time getting rid of that than aptasia.

If they are 6" above the water, they'll keep most stuff alive, and they're cheap... obviously a higher power and more expensive fixture would be better...

Bascially though, the idea of keeping frags in your sump is doable and perhaps concurrently with cheato not impossible. Lots more to it, but basically red light not as good for coral of course, full-spectrum would grow coral and macros, blue and white good for coral overall.
