Fuge?

So I have multiple questions. I'm starting a new tank a RSM 650. I was already debating building a fuge in the sump or just simply putting some LR down there. I'm still pretty new to the hobby and this would by my first refugium. I was given a bucket full of cheato and caulpera from a lfs today. I'm a little skeptical why they would be giving it away. I asked why and they said they had plenty of it. Their reaction to my question made me question it even more. Could there be something wrong with it? Also it's a new tank should I be trying this on a new tank? Are the benefits worth it?

Rock or rubble in the sump often collects detritus which leads to higher nitrate production, so I'd go with the fuge. Personally, I wouldn't bother with the caulerpa. The chaeto is more efficient and easier to maintain.
