so whats the trick here I cant get shots anyware close to the clarity that I see in a tank of the month shot and my corals arnt brown lol any suggestions?

what sort of camera are you using? I has having a heck of a time as well until i got some help in from a few people. for me it was just about playing with the iso and shutter speeds and a bit of post work and it was perfect

well i think most of the TOTM shots are done with crazy expensive canon's or nikon's but switching to the panaramic setting helps as well idk it's very tricky to do just trial and error worked for me ha

I hate taking FTS.. I must have took 100 something pics of FTS and none are decent enought to post.. oh well :)

OK OK OK...heres the most important steps

TURN ALL FLOW OFF

DONT DO IT RIGHT AFTER YOU FEED YOUR TANK

USE A TRIPOD

AND AND AND...BE SURE TO SET YOUR METERING TO CENTER SPOT, NOT MATRIX, NOT ANYTHING BUT CENTER...AND THEN MAKE SURE YOUR CENTER SPOT IS ON SOMETHING THAT IS DIMMLY ILLUMINATED IN THE TANK.

Thanks going to be best way to start...then its just matter of playing around with settings until you get it right...and when you do WRITE IT DOWN!!

Hope this helps a little.

One important thing that is not easy to master is white balance. Most cameras have multiple settings for white balance and a procedure to take a picture of something white in your tank (to show the camera what white is supposed to look like). I have problems with some green corals having a reddish tint and some blue tipped corals looking purple. Play with your white balance and see what difference it makes.

To be able to see anything in my FTS', I have to stitch a few shots together. Make s ahuge picture, but you can scroll and see th etank almost as if you were in front of it. I've only got three lenses, though (Sigma 150mm, Canon 70-200mm L IS, and kit lens-18-55mm). I have to look through walls to get the whole thing in the 70-200...

Also what has helped me lately is shooting in RAW..

Tell me about shooting in RAW. I see several people talking about that but when I try it I can't really tell the difference.
