Fully submerge a media reactor?

Why would it increase back pressure? Some arcane branch of physics I'm unaware of LOL. I have done this for years in my sump, it's fine.

I do it too in one situation where I have no room to hang it out of the water. It is fine. Other than getting a bit of organics on it from being submerged, it does the job just fine.

I figured since the outflow would be restricted by virtue of the effluent being underwater it would add some back pressure to the pump. Albeit: 1. I'm only submerging it, slightly below the waters surface. 2. I know little to nothing about fluid dynamics.

Think of it like a closed loop. No head pressure because both inlet and outlet are in the same body of water.
