I have a 100+ gallon tank at school that is chilled, I wanted to do some research with some sea stars that are being affected by the wasting syndrome in the pacific but that was too expensive, does anyone have any ideas that I can do for my project?
Thanks

You could look at the ability of lionfish to adapt to different temps.

My teacher has shot down the idea even having lionfish in the lab very fast, otherwise, I would have to take this idea up

You could do some kind of algae bloom study

Do you know what kind of algae grows in cold water and where I could get it?

I do not, does it have to be cold water? You could do a study on how typically cold water fish/inverts/corals deal with rising ocean temps.

Yes it does have to be cold water, the people who used the tank before me modded it so that a mini fridge would act as a chiller so I kind of have to have it cold water and we don't have a heater for the tank, so I wouldn't be confident with this system in the winter

A few questions...
High school or college?
And where are you located?
There's alot of interesting things in the Chesapeake bay... But needing a scope of study...

High school, but I have years of experience with freshwater and 2.5 years with reef tanks and I am located in Maryland, we have a blue crab in the lab, what else could I does with Chesapeake bay organisms, what do you have in mind?

Well there has been lionfish seen at 1500ft depth at the Puerto Rican trench the temp that deep is close to 45-50 degrees

We know they live at different temps but I was suggesting seeing how the temp changers their behavior
