In two days, I'll be moving my 35 gallon mixed reef about 2.5 hours. Its going to be a pain. I thought that a fun game (for everyone but me who ends up with the problem) would be to try to guess what problem will occur (something will, I guarantee it). I don't know if it will happen before I even get the tank setup or a week after, but with this much sand, rock, and livestock being moved, it will.

My guess: algae outbreak (I'm thinking hair or bubble, but likely diatoms too)

I'm really working to make sure that doesn't happen, bring most of the water, all the sand and rock, etc, but hey murphy's law

Are you going rinse or leave the substrate? Thats were the biggest issue can arise once the tank is back up and running.

I moved a pair of 29 gallon bio-cubes across town a couple years back when we downsized. I also took that opportunity to combine the two tanks into a 40 breeder which I set up the night before and staged some pre-mixed salt water in case I needed it. Move part wasn't bad since I had a couple 5 gallon buckets with lids read. One for fish, other for coral, and the rocks I placed into a 40 brute. Set everything up the best I could so they wouldn't move around - especially some large hammer corals I had. Rose bubble tips I left on the rocks they attached to so just stacked so they wouldn't get injured. Grabbed a cup of sand or two from each tank and tossed it into another bucket then loaded all this into the back of our Toyota Sequoia then drove across town with someone in the back.

More or less unloaded, tossed rock in the breeder, then added coral, some sand, checked water, turned on heater, and that was it. Next day or so after it cleared I did the final aquascape turned on the lights, skimmer, and didn't really notice anything different. Only thing that happened is one of the rose bubble tips split and I broke a hammer so ended up with a few small frags.
