So I have had my MP10 for about a week now and love it. I was surprised to see how fast the sponge surround for it got dirty, it was insanely quick.

Anyway, the first few days I was so impressed by the output of this unit, but today I looked at my tank and thought maybe I had misjudged or been too excited because it did not seem like some of my corals were getting the flow they got on day 1. I checked the wet side and it still looked very clean, and I thought 'surely the sponge won't affect the intake enough to cut flow in half'........ I cannot believe how much the sponge affected the flow lol! I cleaned the sponge and my crazy good flow is back!

So this is just a friendly reminder to keep your gear clean to perform it's best.

P.S.- I know that the sponge will affect performance when dirty, I was just surprised at how much flow it lost in just 1 week.

And why most longer term vortech users tossed the sponges ages ago .....
Agreed, you're better off fitting it with a 3d printed cover if you're worried about something getting into the propeller. The foam covers lasted about 3 days in my tank then went into the trash.

Not sure the printed anemone guards work as well as their designers would have you think, but agree that anything’s better than the foam sleeves. Really no point to them
