At this point, I am wondering if hermits are overrated, they demolisch everything.

Can this fungia recover from the food stealing hermit, I see some skeleton showing after it's rampage?

Current status... Beyond recovery I think

Think these plates are known to be pretty resilient, even coming "back from the dead", so I wouldn't count it out. What are your current water parameters?

Nitrates 5
Phos 0.3
Kh 8
Ca 420
Mg 1340

Daily red sea AB+

Thanks! Can these corals also bring Monti eating nudi branches into the tank? Only coral introduced since 6 months and now after 3 weeks... First case of Monti eating nudis

i would not completely rule it out, but i personally don't believe so unless the eggs were under the fungia and somehow dispersed across the tank.

in my case, i've lost 3 fungies, all the same way. hermits stealing its food and destroying the mouth. i moved all of my hermits to the sump with the exception of: halloween , electric blue , and scarlet red hermits and increased snail CUC. this significantly reduced the amount of empty shells around the tank i had for them.

Thanks! Yeah I thought the same, almost impossible to bring something in when fully covered in flesh.

The hermit destroyed alot of the sharp edges above the mouth, but the mouth seemed to be fine.

If the mouth is fine, I would keep hope. perhaps move it somewhere with some shade and either dip it periodically in some iodine to avoid any bacterial infection from killing it off or continue keeping your parameters stable.

I gave some shade with a 3D printed umbrella on top of the cover. However I only have DipX and it does not seem to have iodine in it. Is it recommend to keep iodine based dip as wel?

not truly needed, but does help with situations like this

I don’t have DipX but have revive. Those are basically used to treat parasites. Iodine is bactericidal.

These are very forgiving and should recover. Ive seen them completely white and come back as a full coral once again

Thats good to know, do you also recommended an iodine dip or better to leave alone?

Edit: the only local available iodine based dip is Seachem reef dip, is that good enough for disinfection?

That looks more like damaged tissue with algae or cyano growing on the skeleton, not a bacterial infection. Good water quality for now. Maybe get your PO4 down to 0.1.

It is slowly melting away though, the damage was not this severe after the hermit did his rampage (see first pic)

If it dies don't pull it. Has not happened to me personally but I have read numerously cases of them dropping babies after dying tho I suppose they weren't truly dead if they drop babies :thinking-face:
Most coral, including fungia don't really require target feeding. I quit target feeding corals years ago. If the tangs weren't snatching the food the darn cleaner shrimps would go over and dig it out.

that should suffice
