Fungia help

I have a small fungia coral in my tank that keeps getting sand on top of it. Yesterday it was completely burried and when I pulled it out of the sand and turned it over to dump the sand off I noticed the entire bottom of the coral looks damaged and peeling. Is there anything I can do to save it? Any advice is appreciated.
water parameters are good and I spot feed a couple times a weeI.
