Okay so my plates have been looking off for awhile and one died and one just bailed out today.

Is there any chance of it living or do I just toss it? I know to keep the skeleton in case babies come from it though.

You sure that’s not a baby? How long has the skeleton looked like that?
 
Almost positive. It’s been small and peeling off the skeleton for a few months. Came home to it looking like that today.
Can’t help you but following. You got the mouth so that’s good I image.
 
Although the sandbed is a typical location, this has sand all over it that is irritating it. In addition, assure you are providing moderate light and water flow and parameters are in place.
What test kits are you using ?

Suggested parameters:
Temp 77-79
ph 8.1-8.3
salinity 1.025
nitrate < .5
phos < .04
Ammonia < .03
mG 1300
Alk 8-10
CA 440

Do these guys like higher flow? I picked one up as a bonus at a recent sale and it has twice moved itself to a higher flow area of the tank.

Low to moderate flow. Too much flow will press the flesh of the coral against its calcified skeleton, which can cause damage to the flesh. At the same token, too little flow, will prevent them from pulling food out of the water column, and keep them clean from debris in which yours has sand all over it, so increase a little.

Mine has no debris on it. It simply seems to like a higher flow area.

I have no clue how long it’s had that stuff on the skeleton as the plate has been semi inflated for the last few months and couldn't really see the skeleton that much
 
Did it survive?

Sadly no it did not. It went downhill rather quickly after this. Skeletons from two plates are still in the tank hoping they will regrow one day.

Tank overall hasn’t been doing good as I’ve had family issues shortly after this. But I’m getting back to it now.
