I noticed the past few nights that my fungia is exhibiting different behavior at night. When I first got it ~2 months ago it was extending its feeders at night, pretty impressively so. They were about 1/4” during the day and extended almost 3x that amount.

It’s super fleshy and often extended, lights on or off. I feed it mysis and/or brine shrimp once or twice a week and it gets some ReefRoids when I’m feeding my other LPS twice a week.

Fast forward to 3 nights ago when I started checking the tank at night for coral aggression and hitchhikers after receiving a shipment of some platy and favia colonies that I noticed it is puffing up into a big dome shape. I don’t think it got stung by the platy like my acans did, but I can’t be sure.

This is also not my first fungia and I haven’t seen this before, and Google didn’t have anything for me.

Mine does it for sure in my pico reef. It’s been in there 5 yrs now/standard green variety and it does that swelling once a month id say (that I catch, who knows what happens at 3am maybe it’s like a pets life movie)
Not sure why, but it’s patterned and part of its regulation somehow it seems. It’s due for it within a couple weeks I’ll post compare updates

the feeding you do will keep it alive solidly that’s a strong one there.

Awesome, thanks. Waking up this morning I see it’s also moved ~2 inches from where it was when I took the picture, so maybe it’s part of how it moves? My green one extends down to the glass and walks on 1000 little tentacle legs and has never inflated like this in 6 months of having it.

Never a dull moment in this hobby

They typically do this in the wild to move from place to place. They swell up, almost balloning to get caught up in a wave/tide to be swept to another location.

Mine use to do this almost nightly until I moved it. Now it doesn't do it at all.

Mines been in the same spot for five years it’s likely very mad. Blocked due to not a large scape, but it’s fed like a king hence the five

do you even move your fungiids bro
