Fungia took a nasty sting, need suggestions

I bought this from a local and something in his tank gave it a pretty good hit. It's not losing anymore tissue and has been slowly gaining ground on the bare spots. I'm worried about a little algae that has settled into the ridges though. Should I brush it with a toothbrush to try to rid it of some of the algae and detritus or just let it do it's thing? It's trying to fill in, but it seems that it would grow tissue faster if it wasn't impeded by the gunk in the cracks.

the tissue has gained some ground and the rest of the coral looks great. It's also repaired the damage around the mouth, so it eats on occasion. I'll watch it selectively move some food bits to its mouth when I feed the tank, and move some to the outer rim to dump.

nah, no need to dip. It's been living with the sting for a month or more. It was the algae/detritus buildup between the ridges I was concerned about. I think I could clear them with a tooth brush, but am worried about doing more accidental damage than good. It's my first fungia and I got it for a steal, so i want the best for it.

I had something similar happen and I used the trusty turkey baster every couple of days to keep the junk out. The Fungia healed up fine...good luck with yours!
