Yesterday I got 3 chromis for my tank to add a little movement to my tank. I added them after the lights were off so this morning was the first time I got to see them out and about. Well, one disappeared. I couldn't find it in the tank or overflow or on the ground so I figured it just didn't acclimate well and died over night. :(

Well...I tried feeding my maxi mini this morning and he wouldn't eat anything. He's been kinda moving around all day in his spot and I was wondering what was going on. Well, he's currently spitting out a chromis skeleton. lol. I'll have my hubby take a picture of it. Just thought it was a kinda interesting story.

So wow, these nems are quite aggressive then...

I lost a clown to one. Wasn't pretty. They are lethal little nems.

They are super sticky and I think it's a mechanism for them to catch fish because I believe they don't have as potent of a sting as other nems. That's just my thought on it. But yes, they will get your fish...but for some reason they will host a sexy shrimp. lol.

I have heard that maxis will eat fish.

Oh yes, they have no issue with eating fish thats for sure. I have a fairly large one that I feed silversides to and he LOVES them. My fish seem to know that he is not one to be near though and give lots of clearance when swimming around. The maxi was there before the fish, I've often wondered if that makes any difference at all to some of them or if its just a "chance" thing?

People on RC are telling me my chromis must have been dead before because chromis's die...The ones I have are VERY healthy and the LFS I get them from doesn't overstock or sell sick fish. The nem is like 3-4" across and the chromis is only about 3/4". I don't think he would have had a problem eating it even if it was alive because he is very sticky and responsive to touch.

I'm sure if the chromis "drifted" in already deceased, the maxi wouldn't have issue with feeding either but at the size of yours it would be easy for that maxi to take that fish in less than a heartbeat if it brushed up against it. They are very sticky and I've watched mine close VERY quickly around the fish to grab those silversides when I just brush against it slightly with the fish.

That's what I figured. It is super sticky and reactive and my other fish stay away from it. I have a goby I keep hoping he'll eat but I think the goby knows. lol.
