So I have a snowflake eel named Bob and just love him. I was soo happy that I thought we had made our tank “eel” proof. (Bet you can see where this is going). We went out of town so I asked my son to come over and feed the fish. I showed him what needed to be fed and even put the food in baggies with labels. Enjoyed myself while I was out of town. Got home, checked the fish and later that evening went to feed them. I looked for Bob but didn’t see him and I didn’t think anything of it. Next day went to look for him in his rock - No Bob! I had my husband tear the tank apart looking for him and still no Bob. I was heartbroken. I assumed that when my son fed the fish he didn’t secure the lid, Bob got out and the cats got him. I accused the cats of being fish killers every time they came around. Well, a week and a half goes by and we do a water change. Mind you, we had checked the sump and everything! As we are doing the water change my husband pipes up - “Found Bob”. He was down in the sump area and was poking his head out. I scooped him up and put him back in the main tank! I was over joyed! A couple days go by and then - NO BOB!!?? Well......come to find out, we had a small space next to the water overflow column and he was able to get himself in there. It took us 3 hours to get him out...We now have put a cover over the overflow and keeping our fingers crossed we have contained him....and I apologized to the cats.
