Furry orange caterpillars?

I have several of these and have been seeing them for a while. They look like a thin strip of shag carpeting the color of a carrot. 2 are out tonight.

Taken in the dark with a flashlight and my phone.

These don't look like spaghetti worms. The frills blow around in current like hair and originate all over it. They do not seem to be used to feed.

I can't decide between a cucumber or slug. I'm leaning towards slug though.

I have watched them spawn. The release smoke like a stomatella snail. Hopefully I can get a better picture someday.
