future problem?

Had 2" bulkhead that was leaking on the sump side from the sump to external plumbing. We could not get rid of it. Took stuff off used silicone grease, washed it off... so we put silicone on both sides of the glass and reinstalled. Bad move?? Will it cause any problems later??

Silicone on a bulkhead tends to lead to a problem down the road. Best to stick with the rubber gaskets

Thats how I've done mine in the past. Never had an issue with it leaking again. Silicone on both sides, and long as you gave it sufficient time to dry, your in good shape.

I used to seal bulkheads in a very odd way. I put silicone on the plastic, then the rubber gasket, then more silicone on the other side of the rubber. Then when it is tightened to the tank it is basically glued in place and is VERY hard to break the seal...

However, in realizing my newbie mistakes, I have since switched paths on bulkhead installation. I still use silicone, kinda, but it is the 100% silicone magic lube instead. It is a synthetic grease that is sticky but allows the rubber to seat very nicely to the tank.

I have never really been able to get a bulkhead to seal right without some sort of silicone or grease. It just seems to work for me.

I'll leave it for now. I'm going to leave it for now. I'll order an extra to have around. I need to take out a baffle in my sump and make it shorter so I can replace it then. My fiancè works a 7/7 schedule so its easier to do those things when he's away working. Lol. Thanks for the input everyone
