I have a 40g mandarin goby only setup, can i hoise a fuzzy dwarf? My mandarin is 2" in size and 1+year old, and the only fish in the setup.

If i get a small size, and it grows, will it still eat?
It will eat it yes, a dwarf lionfish still gets to 7-8". I have personally had my wife's eat a 2.5" clownfish, and the fuzzy is a little over 6". If it fits and even comes close, it is food. Also, the way a mandarin scoots around makes it an easy target. Fuzzy Dwarfs love to perch sideways on rocks and sit there waiting. I could see it doing that, the mandarin hopping across and BAM, dwarf has a full belly.

I actually did this about 10 years ago. I got a really really tiny fuzzy dwarf and I had a female mandarin. He did not eat her but he did eat one small fish introduced after him. I wouldn't attempt this again and it was in a much larger tank then a 40g. I probably just got lucky, and you might too, but it's more likely the mandarin will get eaten.

The fuzzy really should have a larger tank than a 40. The mandarin grows rather slowly and the fuzzy will grow to over 4" pretty quickly. It would be a risky proposition, and the smaller the tank the more risky.

What about hermit crabs and a cbb? I need something to control algae and aiptasia.

A cbb wont work in a 40g regardless of purchase size.
Way to active.

A dwarf angle could work, but might nip corals. And not going to fix algae issues but can maintain rock work so there is less of i.
If your local club has a rent available file fish could work for the aipastiq then return when its job is done.

I wouldn't, 40 is small for a dwarf lion due to their spine extensions. Are you looking for more visibility/activity in the tank?

As for the CBB not only is it way too active, it's going to get HUGE in that tank (7-8 inches and probably about 6-7 inches tall). They also tend to be poor shippers and very delicate. I would say even a dwarf angel needs more space (ie 4 foot long tank). The only angel I would attempt in a 40 breeder would be the cherubfish or pygmy angel. They tend to be a bit better about not nipping at corals but still a risk:

I might also look into a Lubbock's or Tri-Color Fairy Wrasse. They will eat some pods (but then again so will just about any fish), but they don't specifically target them the way some wrasses do:

But i guess i cant add a small fish with fuzzy, as said by a few above..

Well im a bit confused, as i don't want just 2 fish in 1 tank.

why only 2 fish in what tank?

i just assumed that other tank you have is larger since you have a tang. maybe take some of the smaller fish in there and put them in the tank with the mandarin. then you can have the eel lion tang and some other semi larger fish in the other tank

All are small as of now . :(

There are many options for a 40B, a dwarf lion would not be a choice as not only would a fuzzy out grow it, it would limit any other choices. There are basslets, blennies, small wrasses like the possums and pink streaked, hawks as long as they are last, and the afore mentioned cherub angel. Even though a fu manchu lion would be a better lion fit for a 40B, it would eat most other fish that would be appropriate for that size tank.

Anything that fits in its' mouth, now or later, will be eaten. I wouldn't house a dwarf lion in a 40, they stress easily. They're tough to keep in general, unfortunately.

I dont want a fumanchu, as they are finiki eaters.. cool, i guess i might skip lion or go for a 60g

Aren't fuzzies easiest of all dwarfs? As per lionfishlair..
