FW dip recovery time

Just an update -

The wrasse’s swimming is still a little wonky but getting better. She hasn’t eaten any food yet (no food for about 6 days, I’ve had her for 10 days and she ate days 1-4). I hope she’ll start to eat. I’m going to try to get some live food Thursday if she doesn’t start on the frozen or refrigerated fish eggs.

GC doesn’t have any instructions on how to give a bath so I guess I will buy Prazipro and do a bath for her later this week? Maybe Friday. What do you think @4FordFamily @HotRocks ? For Prazipro I’m afraid of overdosing cause she’s a wrasse so any advice on how to dose and conduct the bath would be appreciated

I hope she eats. It’s sad to think of her starving herself to death. I know she’s been through a lot though and has flukes and internal parasites so it’s an uphill battle.

Using prazi for a bath is probably easier. Easier to figure the dose for the bath. 60 minutes follow the exact instructions on the bottle and make sure you measure the water. Heat and heavy on the airstone.

Exactly this^

Yeah that sounds about right. You'll fill up any amount of square foot you have... trust me. Off-hand comment I would not leave a tank leaking full of water. Once they start they can suddenly burst and often do. I'd get a rubbermaid tub and move the equipment and everything over until you get the new tank. 15 gallons can tear up your rental pretty quickly...

Yeah... this is 100% true. Although @HotRocks and I have it worse than most (we obsess about everything and are incapable of moderation -- part of why we get along so well and why we spend each other's money so well)

If you want to see how it can worsen, see my 500 gal build thread in my signature. Some have it worse than me, I see tanks that dwarf mine! My 180 and 34 (Reefer 170) are still chugging, too!

Here is a pic of the crack. It doesn't appear to be too deep. I think I'll risk it, new tank already shipped and should be here shortly. *fingers crossed*

The wrasse isn’t doing too well, hasn’t eaten yet (tried frozen brine, mysis, ROE, fresh clams). I’m gonna try live food and a Prazipro bath. It’s swimming was getting much better up until this morning but today it was kind of keeling over when I fed befor work. Not too hopeful. I’m kind of worried the Prazipro bath will kill her honestly. I’ve posted in my local reef forum (Bay Area Reefers) asking if someone has a qt I can borrow to try to get her out of the copper ASAP (in a week). I guess coming in with
Flukes and internal parasites is a lot to battle at once

If the fish dies during a prazi bath it was probably going to die anyway. I agree it's not sounding good, but you can try all you can and hope for the best.

Yes thanks. No one gets into this hobby to watch fish die. It’s a frustrating and sad part of it

Amazing news - got live black worms from a freshwater only LFS and the wrasse finally ate!!! She ate several of them! :)

Haven’t done the prazi bath yet but I honestly might wait a bit and see if she can just keep eating. Hopefully she’ll also start to frozen food again so I can get GC into her gut to cure the internal parasites

An update and a question-
The wrasse started eating live black worms and has continued to eat black worms (and only black worms) ever since. I’m trying to trick her into eating frozen brine by mixing the two, but so far no dice (she waits at the pippette for a worm and ignores the shrimp). I haven’t seen the wrasse poop so I don’t know if the internal parasites are still there- I’m hoping she’ll start eating frozen food once I pull the copper out and can medicate with GC and focus then.

My question for @HotRocks or @4FordFamily or anyone else who has experience - I have not given the wrasse a Prazipro bath nor done a FW dip since the one I did on 12/15 (I was too scared). I plan on doing a large water change and putting carbon into the filter To remove copper this weekend (we will be at 30 days). I then plan on dosing general cure to the water. My question is - should I do a FW dip before dosing the GC or just dose the GC? What will be least traumatic for the fish?

If you aren't seeing symptoms of flukes I would just go ahead and dose the GC. If there is a heavy infestation sometimes removing the flukes with a FW dip prior to dosing GC is a bit easier in the fish.

Cool - I haven’t seen knocking against the glass as I did before the FW dip, I have seen some breathing at the surface but (I think) only when I turn the filter off to feed so the O2 levels might be lower then. I will just dose the GC and hope for the best.

Thanks for all your help!
