I've been feeding my LPS freshwater guppys for some time now. They seem to really enjoy them. And have grown nicely.
When a friend heard about this, he felt very strongly that this was not a good idea.
Anyone have any opinion as to why this would be a bad idea?

Depends on where you are getting the guppies from. I would never feed any of my fish or inverts guppies from a petstore. Too mant chances for diseases, especially if the guppies are farm raised. I am currently feeding my flowerhorn cichlid guppies that I raise in a 15 gallon tank.
Not to mention I dont think the guppies have the right nutrition needed for a saltwater coral or fish.

So you think fresh water disease can carry over to salt water?

I usually gut pack them with cyclopeez for added nutritional value.
Personally, i think fresh live food is better than frozen or freeze dried. And I tried supplement prepared food what the heck some live.
The guppys are cheap, live, and the corals grab them up enthusiasticaly.
Its the only food my Blood shrimp was unable to steal from my acan. It just wouldn't let go.

I don't think there would be an issue for the corals as far as disease goes, there are a few that can go from FW to SW and infect fish. But I don't think it would be a major issue, as far as nutritional needs the FW guppies are not the optimum but if gut loaded with cyclop-eeze then they would be much more nutritional then not having them gut loaded.....I would say that if you have not seen any issues with it then continue. I know you can get guppies to be switched over to saltwater just like mollies.....

Thanks for the replies guys. ;)

So what nutritional values do you guys feel the guppys would be missing? The only thing I can come up with, would be the Omega 3 fatty acids? (Which the cyclopeez is full of)

Here is a pic of my tube anemone catching & eating guppies:

I think that's a great idea. I had thought about keeping ballon mollies in my frag tank. When they reproduce, i can feed the fry to my corals. It's like a live food source. I think Im gonna get me some mollies this weekend :)
