LFSs received their G5 diffusers today and I was able to picked one up. The G5 already had pretty good color blending, but I still had a slight disco effect on the sand bed and through a rimless tank I got a prism effect on the walls. Now with the diffuser on, the color diodes are 100% blended, smooth solid color blanketing the tank. For $33 it’s totally worth adding to the light.

Does it legit take away the disco effect because that’s the only thing keeping me on team kessil.

When you saw the new radions looked like really fancy black boxes it was clear they would need the diffusers before you even saw one turned on...unless you were planning to mount them almost 2ft in the air like orpheks.

I plan to go with G5/Kessel combo. G5 with diffuser as primary lighting then kessil to add desired shimmer. Neither light has disco so imo this is the perfect led only combo to get the exact look you want.

so the diffuser will take away that bit of shimmer g5 has?
Well it's not really a shimmer... its a slight disco effect, but yes the diffuser completely removes that and will look more like a T5 light output. If you want true shimmer, you'll have to go with a single point light source like a Kessil or MH.

sigh, I miss metal halide shimmer...

led with no shimmer seems weird. Is it as flat as t5 light?

Same, but I don’t miss having to have a chiller with the MH.

Yes, the g5 with diffuser is a flat blanket. I would go for the new kessil put they don’t put out the PAR and spread for SPS like the radion does. I’ve been running my G5 at 50% output and already bleached the sps and my lps on the sand are happy. Brought it back down to 30% to let them recover and then ramping up 5% a week. Will end up running around 75% once everyone gets used to it.
