G5 Radions - how many and which one?

Hi All,

Newish to the hobby. Have had a fish man previously (and the tank never looked great) but now doing everything myself.

So I’ve just put an order in for a Waterbox Pro Reefer 180.5 - 60”x25”x24”. I’d like a SPS dominant tank.

My LFS says I need 3 x Radion G5 XR30. But I don’t want to disrupt the glass overflow or mount from above and on sides. I’d like to use the back arms. So they reckon 4 x XR30.

I can’t find anywhere with a specific answer, but the spread seems enough for 4 x XR15. The LFS says this won’t be enough light... true, or are they just after my money?

BRS recommends 4 XR15 G5 for 4’ tank, your’s a 5’ tank, 5 XR15 G5 would be suffice. XR30 G5 only if you have a deeper tank than 24”. Given the improved light spread of the G5 over the G4, I’m only intend to run 3 XR15 G5 on my RSR 500P (4’) for SPS dominant.

I am using 3 XR15 blues over a RSR 525 T5 hybrid. About 300 PAR on the rocks mid tank level. Running them at 90% to get this level; 4 may be better but I don't think 5 is necessary.

I have 3 XR 30s over my 525 XL, but going go go with 4 Xr 15s th is week. I will let you know how it works out. W/ the gen 4s I can getr 500 par in the MIDDLE of my tank at like 40% intensity. Hoping i get a LITTLE more spread with 4 XR 15s and a little less par
