G5 Radions

What Percentage are you running your G5 at?

Percentage intensity means little unless the height of the luminaire above water level is stated. Radions are quite capable of providing too much light, or too little if programming is incorrect. PUR plays a part as well.

I have two G5XR15's (one Blue and one Pro) over a Red Sea Reefer 170 (60gal 24 x 20 x 24H). I have them set much higher than what the BRS video suggests to get 250-300 PAR.
BRS recommends 60% for one BLUE to get these PAR levels. So for two XR15's one needs to assume that the % should be less than 60%.
(In their XR30 video they recommend much higher levels for the PRO than the BLUE so I would assume a higher percentage is needed for the XR15 PRO vs BLUE....and I find that to be true).

I am still tweaking, but at the moment I have the BLUE at 69% and the PRO at 74%; using XR15 Mounting Arms, 9" above water). I'm getting PARs around 225-250 at 8-9" deep using Apogee 210 set on Electric (and adding 5% correction factor, as recommended by Apogee technician. He also said to subtract 20% if you use the "Sun" setting). I want to crank it up even more to get closer to 300 PAR but I don't know if I'm trusting the PAR meter well enough to do this yet.

Thanks Dr. Jim...i am running 3 g5 XR30’s at 80% over my 220. I had a 60” 8 bulb ATI fixture on the tank for years, and when i measured the par with the T5’s comparable to the radions was 80%, and thats where i am running them now. I was afraid of LED burn since my corals had years of T5’s so i started at 60 and amped them up to 80 over 30 days....Growth was slowed (which i fully expected). Now growth is back to where it was, maybe even more...im just curious if im running the percentage too high...

Have you seen the BRS video for XR30's? They said (for a 4'tank and 3 XR30's,) to set them at 40% for PRO and 35% for 200-350 PAR. But I'm finding, with my light meter, their recommendations are significantly lower than what I am using. (But that's worrying me enough to crank them up like I want to get closer to 300-350 PAR). My tank is only up for only 5 months and I have 30 SPS frags that were added only1-3 months ago....so I'm reluctant to increase the intensities.....but worry that maybe it isn't enough. (In other words, I don't know how much confidence I have in the PAR meter).

You don’t have my option in poll. I’m running at 25% no diffusers and still see 50-90 par on sand bed. Super powerful lights the g5 are. I’m at 7 inch from water and on a 24inch deep tank

Yeah. I saw the video. And i hung my lights at 8” because they reccomended it. Running at 80% on my tank has the sameish intensity of mt t5‘s with a bit better spread. Im definitley happy with the lights

Are u serious?? Mine is 8 inches from the water and is only 18 inches high.

I am working my way up to 100% intensity and 100% all color channels over the next 20 days. This is with two XR15 PROS over a 36x18x18 tank. I have diffusers ordered that should be here sometime this week.

Wow 100%

Which template you guys are using? Who uses AB+ on mixed reef with a bit of everything and no dominant?

If I start with LPS and soft corals (since it is a new tank), can I use AB+ template, or should I use LPS template? My two XR15 blue are mounted 9” high from water level and my tank is about 20” deep.

Could have sworn Ecotec made some comments to the BRS video and information. May have to search but could have sworn they suggested or recommended a few things differently.

That's super helpful. I posted my story in that category too. Currently 3 Xr30 pro g5 over a 180, 10 inches off the water, radiant program started at 50% and I bleached some corals... not sure if its the light or something else.
Now down to around 40%
Anyone running radiant?
What do you guys use for mixed reef?
(Sorry for cross post)

,I’m running 100% as well. I have 2 over my 180 and I am curious to see the par levels. I may or may not add a 3rd to the center of the tank
