I just got this galaxea frag Friday afternoon. It's looked about the same since I got it.

Is it dead, dying, acclimating, retracted, fine. Or what. I'm new with corals and don't know much. I had read galaxea is hardy and a good beginners coral.

Anyone able to help?

Just curious what's your tank look like? What's the red rocks? And I wouldn't have chose that for my first coral and something must be way off to kill it in that short of time

Red rocks are just red stones aquarium stones. They were thoroughly rinsed then I baked them in the oven just to make sure anything bad on them was killed. I did that way before I ever cycled the aquarium. I don't know what could have been way off I've cycled the aquarium. Most of the parameters are mostly normal. Or at least acceptable. I had low calcium but I fixed that. I have filter feeders micro red dusters, micro brittle star fish. They all seem to be doing fine. I just also got 2 money cowries but they seemed to die too or were near dead when I got them. They don't move though. At the same time I got an emerald crab and it's doing just fine. Running g around eating whatever. My tank has a lot of diatoms and possibly cyano in it but no one seems to be able to tell the 2 apart. But I believe they are mostly diatoms. I haven't got much of a clean up crew yet.

I read galaxea is a good beginners coral. That's why I got it.

I'll be attempting a green star polyp next. I heard those are almost immortal.

Gps is pretty indestructible however I have killed mine [emoji51]. My guess is when you got the galaxia it was not doing well all ready. My first Favia died really quickly after seeing healthy ones online and at other fish stores I realized mine was not doing well when I got it. My guess is when you got yours it was on its way out and the move to a new tank and possibly low calcium and high nitrates/algae finished it off.

Good luck with the gps!

Did you see ANY polyp extension when you first got it and put it in? If not, it's likely it was already on the way out and not much you could have done.

Check out some gsp or xenia. You will regret it later, but its fun to watch in the water flow. Maybe check out some zoas. They are fairly hardy also.

I might go with zoanthids in the future but since I'm a beginner I don't want to risk death.
