I am considering this light for a 30 gallon reef tank with softies, lps and maybe some easier sps. Does anyone have expirence with this light? Can it grow corals well? Possible more expensive alternatives include a kessil a360 or ai prime hd

I have a 36in long tank and on 1/2 I have an A360N, on other 1/2 the Galaxy Hydro lamp. Lots more pest algae growth on the GH side, other than that, corals (softies, LPS) and anemones are doing fine on both sides. If you get the Kessil, also get the controller to program your color, intensity, and ramping times.

The gh is full spectrum whereas the kessil I assume can be altered. I would be sold on the gh if it had a clamp mount. Is one a360 or ai prime hd enough for a 30 gallon?

The gh is full spectrum
any light containing a small part of each spectrum is kinda "full spectrum" so pretty much every light for a reef tank. Its advertizing. A true full spectrum at even levels is 5600k daylight with sun.

I would recommend this one.

what dimensions are the tank? I have a 30 cube with a 16in, you would be better with a 30 or 32 on a 30 long tank.

I had a GH. I swapped out the board for SB Reef light and added a 2nd SB Reef light once I got a bigger tank. There was a very noticeable improvement once I switched to SB. I would put them up against kessil and ai all day long.

SB JINX

I have 2 of the lights you posted about over 45" of 50 gallons. They are wonderful after I ripped open the back and soldered 20,000K diodes and 420nm diodes that I ordered from The Netherlands (really, I did) and drilled a custom brace for them to maintain a low profile over my tank. I like to tinker with things like this. If you don't I would suggest spending a few hundred buck on lights. I took a short cut and saved money because I went through the trouble of modifying. The weird thing is.....I could afford way better lights but I wanted a fun project/experiment.

We all find cool niches in the hobby.

The tank I plan on getting is 23.6x19.7x16.5 inches. Do the sb lights have a controller?

I'm guessing you are looking at the A360w instead of A360N (which I have) so I can't say for certain if it provides enough lighting for your tank. The A360N works great for an 18 inch cube area.

IMO, I would forgo the GH and get the A360 with controller. Aesthetics-wise, it is worth the extra dollars.

Some are wifi for the phone/computer, some a ramping via programming, some timers, some are just basic 2 channel .

Its great light but some folks don't like the box over the tank. I think that's important too. so 2 of the smallest kessils will do too.
its great to have so many options.

Would the 16 inch sbox be suitable for a 30 gallon tank?

That's it! I'm changing diodes out to match SB reef light. Need to see what the ol' hoopla is about!

BTW @saltyfilmfolks , I just went to SB's site. Looks like they are finally releasing their new light on Aug 21st! I'm a little excited to see what it is :D
