GalaxyHydro 165W LED settings for 10g nano

Hi all,

I am trying to tune in my lights for optimum growth of coral and not algae. My tank is 10g and is 12.5" tall from sand to light. I currently have the light sitting on the too of the awuarium as i have no way to hang it or make a support for it.

I am wondering what a good intensity would be for my corals (softies and Montipora)? The lights can be scaled up to 100%, but i currently have whites on 25% and blues on 40%. I am wondwring what everyone is running or what you recommend for optimum coral growth and minimal algae growth.

Ive seen very little on what everyone is running in terms of intensity of their leds, so i wanted some input.

You're probably about in the right range as far as the percentage. If you like how it looks then just let it go. I think I used to have mine at 70% blue and 40% white over my IM20. You may want to try and build a stand for it. When I had mine I picked up some screws and a couple of pieces of 2x4 to build a stand.

I have a pretty elementary knowledge of lighting, but my understanding is that it needs to be ~12" above the water so that the lights mesh together.

At 165w and right on top of a 10g tank I would say at 25%/40 you will probably bleach your corals. Seems like a lot of light for a small tank.

I have a hydra 52 and 26 on 36 bow and my lps started to bleach. My sps loved the light. I don't remember my settings but I ramped them down a 3rd from initially putting them up and that's still too high for most of my lps. I also keep my lights 12-15in above the water line.

Ive lowered the light. Corals seemed hapoy before, but i did notice some bleaching in one polyp of zoanthid

That's a lot of light for a 10G. I'd go low, power, and slowly ramp up.

I agree that your current settings are plenty high for that small tank especially those corals especially the montis. Best bet buy or borrow a par meter and keep montis about 175 par. Softies more forgiving and would probably adapt to most anything as long as not crazy like 500 par.
