Gallon marks for Brute can

I am using a 32g Brute Trash can to mix my saltwater but without any markings, it is hard to get a precise water volume for when I only need to make 15g as apposed to 32g. Now, I understand I could just use half the can and call it good but I prefer to be more specific with it. Since I am using the grey can, I cannot see the water volume from the outside. What are some ways I could leave marks in the tank to show when I have 10g, 20g, 30g, etc.? I was considering just using a Sharpie but would prefer to not have outside chemicals in the bin.

I used a sharpie.. you’ll be fine. I used a five gallon bucket, filled it poured it in, marked the waterline.

Or you can use a uniseal and put a clear tubing that runs up the outside of the trashcan that is as high as the top of thhe can. As water is is added, water will also rise in the tubing. Pour 5 gallons at a time in the the trashcan and mark on the tubing.

This is a pretty rock solid idea here. So much easier, clearly visible, and wouldn't take up much space.

Similarly, a scrap piece of white pvc cut to the inside height of your container and make marks on it like a "ruler". I did it years ago and its never let me down. Good for stirring too....
