Hello all, first post here and I am just starting a new tank (Aqua-One mini reef 90), I have read a lot and something came to mind which I am curious about.

Tank is as stated 90 litres but on threads it’s Gallons, Gallons, Gallons.

Now I live in the U.K. so I have Gallons that Equal 90 ltrs approx 20 Gallons, in the US the Gallons is approx 23. In threads what is the usual measure I should be thinking in if there is one. I hear fish occupancy is inch to gallons but which one, Imperial or US? I have also read that it’s more about waste than actual fish size, poop per inch so to speak. what is the best way to think about it.

Last question on stocking, occupancy and CUC, how do I measure what I can or cannot have in my tank in regard to numbers of CUC. My tank is 90ltrs plus the water in my sump. Fish is discussed as mentioned but no mention of CUC I have come across, or am i missing the right threads?

My aim is to have around 6 fish (not big), one cleaner shrimp, a few hermits (5) and a some snails (4 or 5), possible emerald crab if i can fit one, then cutlivate a few SPS (lighting is a hydra 32HD)

Will my tank cope with that do you think?

Thanks for the help

Paul

I think that sounds good for a clean up crew, 6 fish could get tight but if they are small it should be fine. You can always start with a couple less than the original plan and add as needed/desired. Another thing to keep in mind with too many hermit crabs they can mess with your corals with their little legs but I think 4-5 small hermits won’t do harm. I sometimes find my emerald crabs picking at my zoas too.

Thanks, will start with a couple of false clowns and the CUC, will add from there and watch my water quality, I will be using a skimer and have 20lbs live rock with live sand bed. My main aim is for the coral so if less fish then so be it.

Tank is cycling at moment using shrimp so thinking Xmas min before I will be in the right place to add anything interesting. Lots of time to browse here.

Thanks for the advice

Welcome! In tanks that size I would recommend 3-4 typical nano fish. My clowns are 5 years old now and it was impossible to keep anything peaceful with them anymore in 20 gallons but my royal gramma and starkii damsel could hold their own.

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

I believe that America officially adopted the metric system in the 1960's and we are still in the implementation period.

Gram/fishpoo/liters, the fish make coral food.
