I'm going to try my luck with a Regal angel. They are at nyaquatics and I plan to drive down to pick it up. They say they have him in cupramine and have administed prazi.

I have a ton of food on hand. Live black worms, assorted frozen, clams on the half shell, home made frozen, zoas, and some live rock with algae and sponges.

I need a plan to put the regal through qt. I have tanks for ttm, I have eBay cp which had worked on other fish, I have copper power but only have a api test kkt, and a bunch of other meds for other ailments.

I have a 20gal long that has been set up sterile and empty for a week.

I have a strong back and dedication to changing water.

My thought is to put the fish in qt, monitor and try to get eating for the first 7 days. If all is good and no signs of anything I will continue with my routine for 30 days. If something comes up I will begin treatment. My go to would be either ttm or CP depending on the issue.

I plan on doing 25% water changes daily and a 50% change twice a week. After 7 days of no issue I will put some live rock from my fuge in. Then reduce water changes to 25% daily.

Is there anything else I should do? Any meds I should dose right off the bat? (Nfg, methlyene blue, general cure).

I typically do ttm with nfg 14 days then gc and metro to finish it out. I feel like that would be too stress full on the angel.

I’d acclimate to 1.0 PPM copper, increase to 1.75PPM over 48 hours. Then, add metroplex and run them both for 14 days. You can do prazi an hour before water changes 5-7 days apart as well (metro requires wc every other day).

Another important food is live mussels to get these guys eating. I hope this helps, this is what @HotRocks and I have done. :)

I've never taken a fish through copper. I'm nervous taking an expensive fish through copper.

I'm also nervous that I'll mess something up with the copper and daily water changes to fight ammonia.

Get yourself a Hanna HL Copper Checker. Less stress on both you and your fish. It's amazing ;)

When you say acclimate, what do you mean?

Should I test the store water and match their copper levels then work up to 1.75ppm?

When you say mussles are you talking about the black freshwater mussles at the grocery store?

Only float bag to match temp and match salinity of source prior.

Ok I am ordering a Hanna Checker. Should I bring the fish home, acclimate to temp and salinity of store water, and then monitor and attempt to feed until the hanna checker comes in (monday or tues) or should I does the QT to 1.00 ppm and use the api copper test kit.

Should I also lower the salinity in the qt gradually to 1.018?

Part of me says to get the fish eating and happy in qt, then start treating. This way I can treat if something comes up like an infection or flukes with out worrying about the copper in the water. (main reason I like ttm)

Have your QT salinity set to match what NY Aquatics already has it in, then the only acclimation is temp while floating. Also, if they have it in copper now, is it eating? Can they tell you what it's already eating so you can be sure to have that ready as well? I'd imagine they could also tell you what strength copper it's in now. If it's eating now, then you shouldn't have much to worry about from the copper anyway.

BIG plus one from me on copper power and the Hanna checker mentioned as well!! I was always leery of copper and test kits that seemed all over the board. I'm still a CP fan (have a prescription) but it's been super easy with the Hanna checker and the formula in the Copper Power Ratios thread. Using the formula you should be able to hit 1.0 almost on the dot while waiting on the checker to go higher.

It is eating hakari mysis. I'm picking it up at the store so I'm going to make them test copper and salinity when im there. Then I'll match salinity at home.

Is it ok to go from ionic copper to chaelated? It's in culpramine and I have copper power.

I have the Hanna ordered with 2 day shipping. Hopefully it arrives sat!

If they have 1.026 salinity, should I slowly lower it over a few days to make it easier on the angel?

See if you can watch it, or a few of them, eat at the store. Just pick the most aggressive and alert looking one. If you see any that appear to be slow or kind of in a fog avoid them even if they are eating.

You can drop the salinity as quickly as you want. I place almost all of my new fish directly from the bag to hypo salinity of 1.009 with no acclimation regardless of what salinity they come from. Just have to be careful when raising the salinity back up.

I like the idea of just dropping them to a set point from the beginning.

@4FordFamily @Humblefish
The Angel is in Cupramine at the fish store. Its eating and appears healthy from the video. I will bring it home and put it in copper like you suggest. I ordered the Hanna checker and i have copper power on hand. You recommended acclimating right into 1.0 ppm of cooper power. Is it ok to take the fish from Cupramine to Copper power with no acclimation?
