So I finally am getting around to leveling my tank before the fresh water test and I realized that there is some gaps between the tank and the top of my stand. It is down hard in some spots and others there is 1/16" space. I have a 40 breeder with rim on the top and bottom.

I was thinking of cutting 1/16" horseshoe shims and putting them where there are gaps, is this a good idea?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated

To level tanks we usually use the foam board from a Home Depot or lowes....cut the size to fit the entire tank base and fill her up.....you can also use the rubber mats that innovative marine sells called leveling mats if you have them available locally.

You are correct in using shims and if you want to keep it simple, use the composite shims. The composite shims will not rot if the get wet.

You can also use old credit cards, membership cards, hotel key cards, etc. Make good glass scrapers too.
