Gashed Fish from LFS

Hi all, I hope this is the right place for this. I got a filefish from LFS. When I picked him out, I didn’t notice him having a gash, but when I got him acclimated (I drip acclimate in a black covered bucket) and put him in the tank he had an unbelievably horrible gash right at his gill. He’s been hanging on since last Sunday, and none of the other fish are bothering him. I don’t want to move him to another tank due to stressing him out more than he already is stressed. Anyone have this happen and have the fish survive? I’m so bummed, because I’m not sure what happened, and this guy is a real trooper.

Maybe try some stress guard from seachem to help it heal.

Is this a Dartfish? Was he kept in a tank with more aggressive species?

No a filefish, and I’m sorry to report he finally died. I really thought the guy might pull through. Thanks for the replies

Sorry to hear that my friend. Maybe I’m a weird one but I view the dish I have and the fish I’ll be stocking my final build with as pets so it always really sucks when I lose one. That said, you did what you could for the poor little guy. And that’s what counts
