Gate valve location?

I'm running herbie overflow on new tank. Is it okay to set the gate valve on a horizantal or 45 degree run to the sump?

Yes. The open drain flows the same whether it's vertical, at a 45 degree angle or horizontal.

BTW, I just set up a new tank with a full herbie and my gate valve is on a 45 and the system runs so quiet I can't believe it's actually running 1600gph!
