Gate valve sucking air - rebuild?

I have a 1" gate valve on my Herbie Overflow and it sucking in some air. I can push or pull on the knob itself and change the sound its making. I assume there is some sort of gasket of something here. A new valve is like $50! Is there a way to rebuild or remedy this without replacing the entire unit?

Spears gate valves can be rebuilt(BRS sells rebuild kits that include the gaskets and orings). Others are just toss and put in new ones.
